TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State University soccer team
continued its unprecedented first week Wednesday with the release of the
latest Soccer America Top 20 poll. The Seminoles, who achieved their
first-ever national ranking on Monday, debuted at No. 18 in the latest
“We are very excited about the exposure,” said head coach Patrick
Baker. “We always dreamt of having a ranked team and now it has happened
just one week into the season.”
The Seminoles now appear on all three of the polls released after
the first weekend of action. FSU debuted at No. 23 on the American Soccer
Writers poll, then garnered enough votes to place themselves in the Top 30
of the Soccer Buzz national rankings. Florida State also made a strong
entrance into the Southeast region rankings at No. 6.
“We are very excited about the No. 6 ranking in the Southeast
Region,” said Baker. “Any time you can be put up in the same group as Wake
Forest, Clemson, North Carolina, and Florida is absolutely huge. We are
still on the outside looking in but we still get to play everybody ranked
ahead of us with the exception of Florida. Maybe we can still creep up the
Florida State takes on Jacksonville University today at 7:00 p.m.
at the Seminole Soccer Complex before traveling to Missouri for their first
away match of the season.
