2010 Season Statistics | Week 2 Notes

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Following a cross country road trip to the state of Washington, #6 Florida State (2-0) now focuses its attention on its home opener where it will play host to in-state foe Stetson (1-1) Sunday, August 29th at 2:00pm. The Seminoles have never lost to the Hatters, allowing just one goal in six overall matches. FSU won last year’s matchup 3-0 during an August 30th matchup in Deland, Fla. Overall FSU is 26-1 all-time against schools from the Atlantic Sun Conference.

The first 250 students at the game will get a free pair of Seminole Soccer Gunner Glasses. Every Sunday matchup will be “Popcorn Sunday” where fans can get a free small bag of popcorn with any purchase at the Seminole Concession stand. Afterwards please join the Seminoles following the match for a post game autograph session.

Senior captain Amanda DaCosta had this to say about the upcoming matchup, “It feels good being back in Tallahassee, it was a different atmosphere over there as the long travel was hard on our bodies. I think we’re ready to put the work in this week and come out in front of our home crowd on Sunday.”

“Our hope is the team will come out from the start with a great deal of focus,” said Head Coach Mark Krikorian. “I’m sure they will be excited and prepared. And we’re hoping to get the crowd that we often times draw to give our kids a little more emotion in a home field advantage.”

Florida State is 12-2-1 all-time in home openers, having outscored opponents 59-16 in those games, including six shutouts. The Seminoles have won six straight home openers, including five straight under head coach Mark Krikorian. During that run the Seminoles have defeated Arizona State 3-2 in (2004), Jacksonville 7-0 (2005), Portland 2-1 (2006), Francis Marion 10-0 (2007), UCF 5-0 (2008) and Jacksonville 7-0 (2009). The 10-0 victory over Francis Marion in 2007 was a school record for a home opener, and the second biggest margin of victory in school history.

The last time FSU lost a home opener was in 2003 in a 2-1 loss against Southern Cal. FSU’s last loss during a home opener came against Southern California in 2003 as the Trojans defeated the Seminoles 2-1.  The only other times FSU has failed to win a home opener was a 3-0 loss against Miami in 1999 and a scoreless tie against Oregon State back in 2002.
