TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State Women’s Soccer team was recognized by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) for their efforts both on the field and in the classroom in 2013.
The Seminoles earned the College Team Academic Award and the Ethics and Sportsmanship Award from the soccer coaches’ association.
To be eligible for the academic award, soccer teams must post a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Florida State concluded the 2012-2013 academic calendar with a team GPA of 3.26.
The College Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award recognizes teams that exhibit fair play, sporting behavior and adherence to the laws of the game, as reflected by the number of yellow or red cards issued throughout the season.
Florida State finished the 2013 season with just five yellow cards and no red cards to earn Silver Award status. In all, 254 teams over all divisions received either Gold, Silver or Bronze honors for their display of good ethics and sportsmanship on the field.
The Seminoles were one of four teams in the ACC to finish the season with five or fewer yellow cards and no red cards as the Seminoles joined Pittsburg, Virginia and Wake Forest in that category.
