Softball Competes in USF Speedline Invitational

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Lady Seminole softball team will compete in the Speedline Invitational Tournament this weekend, March 4-7. The tournament, hosted by the University of South Florida, will include ten pre-season top 25 teams in the four days of competition.


FSU will face Mississippi State in their first game on Thursday, March 4 at 2:00pm followed by a match-up with #23 Hofstra at 8:00pm. The Lady Seminoles will then take on #5 Michigan on Friday, March 5 at 3:00pm with the FAU game beginning at 7:00pm. The Lady Seminoles will take on the Georgia Bulldogs in action on Saturday, March 6 at 2:00pm with the first round of playoffs at 5:00pm and second round at 7:00pm. Sunday’s competition will begin at 10:00am with the semi-finals and the finals beginning at 2:00pm.


The Lady Seminoles started the week with a clean sweep of Campbell on Monday, March 1. Jen White pitched her first shut-out of the year and had seven strikeouts as she took the 5-0 win for FSU in the first game. She also led the team going 2-2 from the plate and had two runs. Becky Wallace added two doubles as Christy Cerecedes had a double and two RBI’s. Stacy Venable got her first start of the year as she took the 2-0 shutout for FSU in the second game.


Florida State is 9-9-1 going into the tournament after their 2-0 start for the week.
