TALLAHASSEE, FL. — The #14 nationally ranked Florida State softball team defeated Florida A&M 4-1 at the Florida A&M campus. The Lady Seminole’s record improves to 46-15 on the year, while the loss dropped the Lady Rattlerettes to 31-31. The victory improved Florida State’s record against Florida A&M on the season to 3-1.
The Lady Seminoles opened the game strong by scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. With one out, CHristy Cerecedes hit atriple to left that scored Kristy Hull from first, who had reached base on a single. The next batter, Corrie Williams, grounded out to the third baseman allowing Hull to score the second run of the inning.
The Lady Seminoles failed to score again until the fifth inning when Kelly Miller hit a sacrifice bunt, with runners on second and third, to score Cerecedes from third. The fourth run was scored in the seventh inning when Cerecedes again advanced home from third on a throwing error by the FAMU catcher, ShaKaye Peters, aafter a failed pick off attempt at first.
Freshman Christy Cerecedes led the Lady Seminole attack going 2 for 3, with three runs scored. Junior Danielle Cox also had a successful day at the plate going 2 for 4. Junior pitcher Corrie Williams (6-2) earned the win.
The team travels to Virginia and Maryland this weekend to finish conference play before heading home to host the ACC Championships April 23-25.
