TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State junior Dana Bailey’s RBI single to centerfield in the bottom of the seventh inning gave the No. 2 seed Lady Seminoles a 1-0 victory over No. 3 seed Maryland in Game 2 of the Atlantic Coast Conference Softball Tournament at Lady Seminole Field. FSU, ranked No. 16 nationally, improves to 48-18 while Maryland falls to 24-20.
Florida State had stranded eight baserunners in the game when senior
Kristy Hull led off the seventh inning with a single to the shortstop. She was sacrificed to second by Teresa Edenfield and with two on and one out, Bailey hit the game-winner.
Junior Stacy Venable went the distance for the Tribe, striking out four
batters and giving up just one walk. She improves to 16-7. Maryland’s
Kelly Shipman (11-12) recorded the loss. Amy Sandler had two of Maryland’s four hits, while Bailey and 1B Corrie Williams had two hits apiece to lead FSU.
Florida State will play the winner of North Carolina/Virginia on Friday
at 5 p.m., while Maryland plays Georgia Tech on Friday at 3 p.m.
