TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Three quality teams from three corners of the country will join No. 13 Florida State in Tallahassee this weekend for the Unconquered Invitational on March 2-4. The Seminoles (12-4) will host No. 6 Oregon (12-3), Florida Gulf Coast (13-0) and Hofstra (8-4) in a three-day tournament on JoAnne Graf Field that will see each team play five games.
The Noles will start on Friday with games against Hofstra (12:30p) and Oregon (3:00p), as well as two games on Saturday versus Florida Gulf Coast (12:30p) and Hofstra (3:00p). FSU will close out the weekend with another game against the nationally-ranked Ducks at 11:30am on Sunday.
“We’re excited to bring some solid teams in this weekend,” said FSU head coach Lonni Alameda. “This will be a great opportunity for us to go against some different styles of competition in a short amount of time. It will also be nice to play Oregon in front of our crowd and fans after heading out there last year. But really looking forward to the challenge and there will be a lot of quality softball played here this weekend.”
Oregon leads the all-time series between the Noles and Ducks, 8-4, and has won each of the last four games in the matchup. This weekend will be the third time that Oregon has played in Tallahassee, and Florida State is 2-2 against the Ducks on JoAnne Graf Field. Last year in Eugene, Ore., Oregon won all three games of the series, but the Seminoles had a sixth-inning lead in game two before a 3-1 loss, and the Ducks tied the game to force extra innings in game three, eventually earning a 2-1 win in nine innings.
Florida State holds a 15-2 record in the all-time series with the Hofstra Pride, and has won each of the last four games, dating back to 2013. The Seminoles are 6-1 against the Pride at home, with the only loss coming on February 13, 2011 (2-0).
The Seminoles have won each of the five games played against Florida Gulf Coast, including both games played in 2017 on the road in Fort Myers, Fla. FSU has outscored the Eagles by a combined score of 37-2 in the series.
Admission is free for all games at JoAnne Graf Field this weekend, and games start at 10:00 a.m. on Friday and Saturday, with a 9:00 a.m. start on Sunday. Live stats and links for FSU Softball Radio will be available on the softball schedule page of Seminoles.com.
