TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State Lady Seminoles started their 2000
Softball season in a positive way on Sunday at the Seminole Softball
Complex. The Lady Seminoles swept the doubleheader match-up against the
Georgia Southern Lady Eagles, 8-0 and 6-1.

Senior Jen White-Stokes threw a complete game shut-out in Game 1
going all
five innings before the game ended due to the eight-run rule. White-Stokes,
nervous before the game, settled down as she allowed five hits, walked four,
and struck out two Lady Eagles on her way to getting her first win of the
year. At the plate, Senior Teresa Edenfield went 2-for-3 with three RBI’s
and sophomore Kimmy Carter went 2-for-2 with a triple and 3 RBI’s. FSU blew
the game open with a five-run fifth inning that sealed the victory. Lady
Seminoles Head Coach Dr. Joanne Graf improved her season opener record to an
impressive 19-3.
“This was a very important win for our team,” Coach Graf said. “I was
pleased with our hitting game and the way we ran. All in all we did well.”

In the second game, Sophomore Leslie Malerich went the distance while
only surrendering one hit while walking four and striking out four. The
winning run came in the fourth inning when junior Kelly Miller doubled home
senior Andi Lyons. Lyons ended the day going 2-for-3 with one RBI and a
sliding catch in left. Freshman Brandi Stuart had a solid game at the plate
going 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two stolen bases.

The Lady Seminole are now 2-0 on the season and take on cross-town
