CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Lady Seminole softball team split a
doubleheader with North Carolinathis afternoon in Chapel Hill at Carolina Softball field. FSU lost the first game 6-0 but rebounded to win the
second 8-3 in their final ACC regular season games.
North Carolina started the scoring in the first game off an infield
fly, followed by a three homer by Beth Olen to give the Tar Heels four runs. UNC then scored one in the second and third to take the win
6-0. Danielle Cox led the team going 2-3 from the plate as Jen White
took the loss for the Lady Seminoles, striking out one batter and giving up nine hits. Leslie Malerich also added three strikeouts, giving up three
hits, and Stacy Venable struck out two batters and gave up no hits. The
pitching squad gave up no walks in the
Kimmy Carter got the scoring going for the Lady Seminoles in game two
with a sacrifice RBI to score Cox and the Tar Heels answered with a run in the first inning. FSU then scored in the second inning
off of six hits and one Tar Heel errors. Cox drove in Teresa Edenfield
to begin the scoring in the inning, followed by a two RBI hit from Tami Post and back to back single RBI’s by Kimmy Carter and Christy
Cerecedes. Edenfield scored on an error in the third inning and UNC
scored on a Lady Seminole errorin the fourth inning. FSU scored one more in th seventh inning to clinch the win 8-3. Cox led the team,
going 3-3 from the plate and adding one RBI and two stolen bases.
Cerecedes was 2-4 with an RBI, a triple and a stolen base as Dana Bailey went 2-3 and Becky Brock went 1-2. Venable got the win for
the Lady Seminoles, striking out four batters and giving up seven hits
in 4.1 innings. Malerich closed the game, giving up one hit.
Florida State improves to 30-22-1 as the Tar Heels drop to 29-17. The
Lady Seminoles will take on Florida Atlantic at 10:00am and Southern Mississippi at 2:00pm onSaturday in their first games in the
Tar Heel Invitational.
