TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State softball team swept the Miami-Ohio Redhawks tonight 2-0 and 6-2 at the Seminole Softball Comple. The Lady Seminoles are 13-13-1 on the season.
Becky Wallace led FSU in the first game, going 2-3 from the plate as Jen White, who improved to 6-7, struck out 10 batters and gave up only two hits in the 2-0 win. The Lady Seminoles scored on an error in the third inning after Danielle Cox stole second and third base. FSU then scored the final run of the game off a wild pitch from Redhawks pitcher Abby Arnold.
The Lady Seminoles took an early lead in the second game, scoring six runs in the bottom of the first inning. The first run in the inning came when Tenelle Bishop walked Andi Lyons with bases loaded. Lyons then scored off an error by Miami’s secondbaseman. Corrie Williams scored on a wild pitch with Jesse McGregor scoring on an error and Danielle Cox driving in Kimmy Carter on a single RBI. Cox went 1-2 from the plate with her RBI and two stolen bases. Stacy Venable improved her pitching record to 3-0 after striking out four batters and allowing only two hits. Leslie Malerich came in as the relief pitcher and struck out three batters.
FSU returns to action as they host the 16th annual FSU Invitational. The Lady Seminoles begin action on Friday at 5:00pm against Western Illinois at the Seminole Softball Complex.
