The No. 16 Florida State softball team improved to 40-13 with a 2-1, 5-3 sweep of West Florida this evening at Lady Seminole Field. West Florida falls to 32-15 on the season.
FSU had to come from behind and go to extra innings for the win in game one after West Florida’s Blake Baskin hit a blast over the left field fence in the second inning. Misty Molin’s double started the sixth inning for FSU and she was driven in by Kelly Miller’s double to center field. It was another FSU double that started things rolling for FSU in the eighth. Corrie Williams, who also earned the victory on the mound, led off the inning with a double and later scored on an error with two on and no one out. Williams is now 3-1 on the season.
FSU jumped out on top in the first inning of game two, but a two-run blast by West Florida’s Jill Burnett in the top of the fifth inning gave the Argonauts a 2-1 advantage. The Lady Seminoles scored three runs on two hits and an error in the bottom of the inning to regain control. Stacy Venable went the distance and improved her record to 11-5.
FSU will host ACC-foe Georgia Tech on Sunday in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
