TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State softball team (16-15-1) will host #22 University of Massachusetts on Tuesday, March 16 at the Seminole Softball Complex. The double-header begins at 5:30pm.
The Lady Seminoles went 3-2 last weekend in the Tallahassee Democrat/FSU Invitational and finished tied for 3rd. Danielle Cox led the batting for the team, batting .333 with one RBI and six hits with two stolen bases. Christy Cerecedes drove in three RBIs and had one triple. Kimmy Carter added two doubles as Dana Bailey had four hits and a triple. Jen White led the pitching for FSU, going 1-1 with a shutout and only two runs, neither of which was earned. White also struck out 21 batters and had only two walks in her 16.2 innings. Leslie Malerich also went 1-1 and pitched her first no-hitter of her career against Toledo after striking out nine batters.
The Massachusetts Minutewomen are 12-5 and are coming off a 1-0 win over the 1998 National Champion Fresno State in the FSU Invitational. The Minutewomen won the event after Central Michigan had to forfeit the final game due to travel arrangements. FSU leads the series 10-2 and won the last meeting in a 1-0 decision in the 1998 FSU Invitational championship game.
