TALLAHASSEE, FL — The USA Today/NFCA ranked Florida State softball as the preseason #21 in their Top 25 poll this week. FSU will have the opportunity to face all but five of the preseason Top 25 in their 1999 season.
Florida State will face their first Top 25 opponent when they travel to the Arizona State Classic February 12-14 as they take on #8 Nebraska. The Seminoles will then play #11t DePaul and Nebraska at the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Columbus, Georgia February 26-28. FSU could also face #4 Washington, #9 Louisiana State, #11t Oklahoma, #14 Stanford and #18 Arizona State in bracket play at the classic. The next ranked opponents awaiting Florida State will be #5 Michigan and #23 Hofstra at the Speedline Invitational, hosted by the University of South Florida March 4-7. The Seminoles could possible face #6 South Florida, #7 Texas, #15 Oklahoma State, #16 Iowa, #19 Alabama and #24 Illinois-Chicago in bracket play.
Florida State will then host the Tallahassee Democrat/FSU Invitational March 12-14 and could face #1 Fresno State on Sunday during the play-off and bracket play. The Seminoles will then host #10 Massachusetts and #22 Minnesota in mid-March. FSU will then travel to #20 Florida before taking on #6 South Florida in their final game of the season May 6.
FSU finished the 1999 season with a 51-21 record, ranked 17th in the USA Today/NFCA Top 25 poll and played in the NCAA Regional in Stillwater, Oklahoma. The Seminoles were also preseason ranked 17th in 1998.
