South Carolina Maintains Lead at Chrysler Challenge

DESTIN, Fla. –
South Carolina extended its lead in the team standings to 17 shots and the Gamecocks’ Jenna Pearson held her two-stroke lead as play in the second round of the Chrysler Women’s Golf Challenge at the Raven Course at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort came to a close. South Carolina shot a 290 team score and was the only team to break 300 for the day while Pearson shot a one-over par 72 and has played the first 36 holes with an even par score of 142.

South Carolina and Alabama remained the top two teams in the event while No. 20 Florida moved into third place in the team standings. The Gamecocks begin play in Sunday’s third and final round with a 17-shot lead over Alabama and a 20-shot lead over Florida.

Florida State’s Jaclyn Burch turned in the best individual round of the day as she carded a career-best three-under par score of 68. Burch moved from tied for 26th in the individual standings to tied for fifth entering the final round.

Sunday’s final round begins at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start.
