South Carolina Wins Team Championship Of Chrysler Women’s Golf Challenge

DESTIN, Fla. –
The South Carolina Gamecocks held off a third-round charge by the Florida Gators to win the Chrysler Challenge by one stroke as play in the women’s golf tournament at the Raven Golf Course at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort came to a close Sunday. South Carolina, who entered the final round with a 17-stroke lead, defeated Florida, by a three-round score of 903-904. The Gators made up 16 strokes in the final round as they attempted to rally from a third place standing after the second round of play.

The team victory was the 18th all-time for the Gamecocks and their first since the 2002 SEC Championship.

Jenny Suh of Alabama won the individual championship as she carded a two-under par 69 in the final round and finished with a 54-hole total of 213. She carded three scores of 72 or below for the event with a 72-72-69 for her total. Suh defeated second-place Kimberly Meek of LSU by eight strokes.

South Carolina won the team championship as it had four golfers finish in the top 10 of the team standings. Jenna Pearson and Whitney Simons finished in a tied for sixth, Erica Battle finished in a tie for eighth and Laura McCaslin finished in a tie for 10th place.

Junior Jaclyn Burch who finished in fifth place in the individual standings led Florida State, the host school. The junior carded a two-under par 68 in the second round of the event.
