Played in 62 games and made 59 starts at shortstop during his sophomore campaign…finished with a .263 average with six doubles and 26 RBI…scored 31 runs and drew 27 walks…was hit by nine pitches as FSU set a new single-season record with 104 HBP…registered three singles and scored three runs against Villanova (3/1)…lined two doubles in the first game against Boston College (3/8) to open ACC play…hit a two-run single down the right field line in the fourth to help lead FSU to a 4-1 win at Florida (3/12) – it marked the first time Florida State had won in Gainesville since 2007…stunned the Gators again as his eighth inning RBI-infield single proved to be the difference in a 2-1 FSU victory at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville (3/26)…that single started a streak of hits over seven straight at-bats which included games against Virginia Tech (3/29 and 3/30)…it was the most hits in consecutive at-bats since Tyler Holt hit six straight in 2009…had three hits, three walks, three RBI and three runs scored in the two-game series at Stetson (5/7 and 5/8)…had 12 multi-hit games – including five three-hit games against Villanova (3/2), Virginia Tech (3/29 and 3/30), Troy (6/2) and Indiana (6/8)…led the team in hitting during the NCAA postseason posting an average of .529 (9-for-17) in NCAA Regional and Super Regional play.
Appeared in 29 games making two starts in his first season at Florida State…made back-to-back starts – the first of his career – in the first two games against Rhode Island… posted career-high for hits (2), runs (2) and RBI (2) in the win over the Rams (4/27) – also started game two at shortstop (4/28)…recorded his first career hit in the 10th inning of the series finale against Miami (4/22)…went on to score the game-winning run from second on a base hit by Sherman Johnson to complete the come-from-behind victory over the Hurricanes – entered the game in the second inning to play shortstop and was perfect from the field converting on all six fielding chances…finished the year hitting .107 with three hits, four RBI and seven runs scored…drew four walks and was a perfect 2-for-2 in stolen bases…registered his first career RBI drawing a walk with the bases loaded in the eighth against Hofstra (2/19) in the series finale.
Garnered first team All-Area and All-District honors all four years at Lincoln Park Academy…hit .417 as a senior with 11 doubles and five triples, drove in 30 runs and stole 16 bases…participated in trials for the USA U-16 team as a sophomore…earned Under Armour Honorable Mention All-America honors and was a member of Rawlings’ first team All-Region team in 2010…completed the IB Program and was a member of the Key Club at Lincoln Park Academy.
Son of Edgar and Sharon Alfonzo…father played 14 years of minor league baseball, while uncle (Edgardo Alfonzo) played 11 years in the major leagues…member of the 3.0 GPA Club at FSU (Spring 2013)…transferred to the University of Tampa following his sophomore season (2013)…born December 19, 1992.
