PERFORMANCE PROFILE

Gained valuable experience last fall, competing in five cross country meets as a redshirt freshman, including the ACC Championships…coming off a strong summer of training…has been limited by injury throughout his first two seasons…lined up twice in the mile during the 2017 indoor season; his first track action in uniform for the Noles.

 

2016-17:

Cross Country: Finished in FSU’s top seven three times and was the No. 8 runner at the ACC Championships where he posted an 8k PB (25:16.1)…was No.7 runner in season-opening Covered Bridge and followed up with strong 6k (19:06.6) at adidas XC Challenge…finished seventh among teammates at FSU Invitational. Indoors: Opened his track & field career in Boston at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational where he posted a mile PB (4:12.39)…did not advance out of the preliminary heats of the mile at the ACC Indoor Championships. Outdoors: Did not compete due to injury.

2015-16

Sat out the entire year as a redshirt while adapting to the transition of higher mileage…battled injury during the spring which forced him to pull out of the USATF Junior Championships after qualifying in the 1500 (3:53.27) while competing unattached at the Florida Relays.

Personal:

A two-year captain in cross country and track & field at Arrowhead High School in Hartland, Wisc…placed third in the 1600 (4:13.94) at the 2015 Wisconsin Division I state championships and anchored the runner-up 4×800 relay (7:44)…placed seventh as a junior and senior at the Wisconsin Division I state cross country championships,   earning All-State honors…2014 Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Cross Country Runner of the Year…a three-time Academic All-State selection in cross country…has outstanding range with personal-best marks of 50.2 (400), 1:52.9 (800), 4:13.9 (1600), 9:24 (3200) and 15:29 (5000)…graduated with honors from Arrowhead High…spent his entire prep career as a member of the honor roll…the son of Joe Simons and Nancy Rajek…his older brother, John, was a three-time All-American on the track at Minnesota with multiple sub 4:00 mile performances to his credit…majoring in exercise science at FSU…born January 26, 1997.
