Senior Spring Year:

Went 15-6 in singles for a 23-12 record on the year…reached his 100th collegiate win against Virginia Tech on April 15th…finished career with 104 wins…played on court five and six throughout the season…started spring winning nine of 10 matches…clinched Florida State’s win over Georgia Tech…was 5-3 in the ACC…went 1-1 in doubles play.

Fall:

Posted a 8-6 record in singles fall play…posted a 4-1 record at the Seminole Invitational in singles…reached the final match but fell to FAMU’s Salif Kante…went 2-1 at the ITA Southeast Regionals where he defeated Miami’s Diego Soto in three sets and took No. 97 Juan Melian Puigventos of Georgia Tech to three sets in the round of 16…posted a 5-4 record in fall doubles play including a 4-2 record with teammate Brian Alden…reached the semifinals of the doubles draw at the Seminole Invitational.

Junior Year (at Arizona)

Compiled a 4-4 record during the fall where he was the Crimson Singles Back Draw Champion at the NMSU Invitational…was the runner-up in the doubles main draw at the same tournament…posted a 8-9 singles record during the spring…started year out with an 8-3 record…had a 11-9 record in doubles including a 7-5 mark with teammate Andre Vidaller…the duo upset the No. 67 team of Clayton and Kelly from Stanford 8-5.

Sophomore Year (at Arizona):

Compiled a 13-9 overall singles record after starting the 2010 season with five of six singles wins. Tied Andres Carrasco with most wins on the season with 13. In single’s competed in position No. 1 (1-1), No. 2 (3-2), No. 3 (5-2) and No. 4 (4-4). He had a five single match winning streak that started against San Diego and ended against then-No. 16 ranked California. Zafiros competed in seven doubles matches and was paired with Andres Arango (0-2), Geoff Embry (2-2) and Ravid Hazi (0-1). In the fall, Zafiros competed in four events–NMSU Fall Invitational, the Pepperdine Fall Classic, D’Novo/ITA All-American and the 2009 Wilson/ITA Division I Southwest Regional Championships where he compiled an overall 9-6 singles record. His most notable fall match was at the 2009 Wilson/ITA Division I Southwest Regional Championships in Malibu, Calif. where he advanced to the semifinals of the single’s bracket, but fell to Pepperdine’s Alex Llompart.

Freshman year (at Arizona):

Competed in two fall events – Arizona Fall Classic and Wilson/ITA West-North Regional Championships. Won the first annual Arizona Fall Classic when teammate Francois VanderMerwe was unable to play due to injury… Finished fall with a 4-3 singles record… Started his freshman spring campaign winning his first 15 matches… During the streak, he won 12 straight matches to start the season… Won 15 of the 16 non-conference matches he participated in… Owns a 3-0 record in Pac-10 play… Tied with teammate Andres Carrasco for most single’s victories on the season with 18… In single’s competed primarily at position No. 6 where he is a dominate 14-1… Also is perfect 4-0 when playing at position No. 5… In doubles, teamed with Andres Arango (1-2) and Jay Goldman (0-1).

High School

2008 Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy Graduate…won two ITF tournaments in singles play in2008…doubles finalist of boys 16s Eddie Herr International Junior Tennis Championships…2007 singles finalist at the Raul Ordonez Tennis Classic…blue chip five star recruit.

Personal:

Born on July 4, 1990…majoring in sociology…parents are Tammy and Manny Zafiros…father Manny played basketball at Wichita State where he played in the Final Four which was the only team in school history to make it to the semifinals and Final Four…aspires to be a sports agent after graduation…earned Pac-10 All-Academic Honorable mention in 2010 and 2011…comes to Florida State after three years at the University of Arizona.
