Q&A’s with Amanda Doherty
Ranked fourth in school history with a 73.71 stroke average entering the spring semester of 2018…played in the NCAA Championship Finals, the NCAA Columbus Regional Championship and the ACC Championship in her first season as a freshman…her scoring average in her first collegiate season (74.26) is the third lowest by a freshman in school history…joined the Seminoles’ starting lineup in the first semester of her true freshman season…played in all four of the Seminoles’ events during the fall of 2016 and helped Florida State to three tournament victories (at the Schooner Fall Classic, the Jim West Challenge and the Cardinal Cup)…a member of the Seminoles’ line-up for all eight events in the spring of 2017 as Florida State won three tournaments (Florida State Match-Up, The Dickson Intercollegiate and the Clemson Invitational) to bring its total to a school-record of six for the year…earned five top-15 finishes in eight events during the spring of 2017…under par finishes four times (once in the fall of 2016, once during the spring of 2017 and twice during the fall of 2017)…finished in a tie for seventh place in the individual standings at the Dickson Intercollegiate…was a total of minus two strokes under par in finishing well at the Dickson…played in her first ACC Championship as a freshman in 2017 and helped lead the Seminoles to a school-record tying second place finish in the team standings…the No. 1 ranked high school golfer in the state of Georgia in 2016…played in the 2016 U.S. Women’s Amateur at Rolling Green Golf Club in Springfield, Pa….ranked as high as No. 45 on Golfweek’s top-50 recruit list for the class of 2016…two-time individual state champion in the state of Georgia in 2014 and 2016…won the state of Georgia Class 1A individual championship and led her team to the championship in 2016…won the individual state championship in 2016 by a five-stroke margin…won the individual state championship and led her team to a fourth place team finish in 2014…qualified for and made the cut in the U.S. Girl’s Junior Championship…played in the 2015 U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship…played in the U.S. Women’s Four-Ball Amateur Championship in 2016…finished in fourth place in the stroke play portion and advanced to the match play portion of the 2016 Four-Ball Championship…earned three top-five finishes in the AGJA Tour…won two individual championships on the Florida Junior Tour in 2014…earned one win and two top-three finishes on the Southeastern Junior Golf Tour in 2013…her individual championship came at the Brunswick Junior Classic in 2014…also finished second at the Crabapple Junior Classic in 2013…earned one individual championship on the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour in 2013…the Player of the Year as named by the Country Club of Roswell in 2012, 2013 and 2014…advanced to the round of eight in the championship flight of the Women’s Southern Amateur in 2016…won the individual championship at the Judson Collegiate Invitational at the Country Club of Roswell in Georgia in 2016…shot scores of 70-73-70 for an even par total of 213 at the Judson Collegiate…earned President’s List Academic honors in the fall of 2016 and the spring of 2017 with a perfect 4.0 grade point averages in both semesters…named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll in 2017…named to the 2017 All-ACC Academic Team…named to the 2017 All-American Scholar Athlete Team by the Women’s Golf Coaches Association…averages 73.71 strokes in 47 rounds during 16 events entering the spring of her sophomore season.
Played in the U.S. Women’s Amateur for the second time in her career at Rolling Green Golf Club in Springfield, Pa…carded scores of 74-80 but did not make the cut…won the individual championship at the Judson Collegiate Invitational at the Country Club of Roswell.
Played in all four events as she broke into the Seminoles’ lineup as a true freshman…earned two top-10 finishes in helping the Seminoles to three team championships in four events…the Seminoles’ gained team championships at the Schooner Fall Classic, the Jim West Challenge and the Cardinal Cup…career-best finish (tied for sixth) came in the Jim West Challenge…a second consecutive top-10 finished (tied for 10th) came in the second-ending Cardinal Cup…first career under par score of 70 came in the second round of the Cougar Fall Classic and her first career score in the 60’s came as a 69 in the third round of the Jim West Challenge…her best event came at the Jim West Challenge where she carded season-bests for a single round (69 in the third round), for 36 holes (142 in the first two rounds) and total career-best for a three-round tournament scored (211), a three-round tournament vs. par (minus five) and for the best finish of her career (tied for sixth)…finished with three rounds at par or better (70-72-69) for the first time in her career as she finished as the Seminoles’ second leading finisher in the individual standings…played well in consecutive events at the Cougar Fall Classic (217, tied for 27) and in the Jim West Challenge (211, tied for sixth)…was a total of four strokes under par in those two events…at or below par in all three rounds (70-72-69) in finishing in a tied for sixth place in the individual standings of the Jim West Challenge…second career top-10 finish in the season-ending Cardinal Cup with a 70 in the final round of the event…was her fourth round in the first 12 of her career under par…averaged 73.50 strokes in 12 rounds during four tournaments…

Played in her first career NCAA Championship Finals in 2017…played in each of the Seminoles’ eight events in her first spring season with the Seminoles in helping Florida State to the NCAA Championship Finals…helped Florida State to a school-record tying second place finish in her first career ACC Championship tournament at The Reserve at Pawleys Island…the second place finish tied Florida State’s school record for best finish in an ACC Championship…career-best single round score of 66 came in the opening round of the Dickson Intercollegiate…her score of 66 was tied for the second best single round score of the spring season among her teammates…posted a season-best three-round score of two-under par (213) at The Dickson Intercollegiate where she finished tied for seventh place…came within two strokes and was one individual place in the individual standings from tying her career bests which came at the Jim West Challenge in the fall of 2016…shot 75 or better in all 14 of her rounds during the regular season was in second place in the individual standings after shooting a first round score of 66 at the Dickson Intercollegiate…moved into a tie for seventh place after a second round 75 and finished in a tie for seventh place with her three-round total of 213…under par at the Dickson (minus two) for the second time in her career…she was also a career-best minus five in finishing in a tie for sixth place at the fall 2016 Jim West Challenge…two scores in the 60’s with a career-best 66 in the first round of the Dickson Intercollegiate and a second round 69 at the Florida State Match-Up…helped the Seminoles to team championships at both events…one top-10 finish came at the Dickson Intercollegiate to bring her career total to three (Jim West Chellenge, Cardinal Cup and the Dickson)…finished in the top 15 in four of the six tournaments as earned her season-high finish of tied for seventh at The Dickson Intercollegiate…top 15 finishes also came at the Florida Challenge at the Black Diamond Ranch in Lecanto, Fla. (tied for 12th) the Florida State Match-Up at Don Veller Seminole Golf Course in Tallahassee (tied for 13th) and at The Clemson Invitational (tied for 15th)…three of the four times that Doherty finished in the top 15 resulted in Florida State team tournament victories (at the Florida State Match-Up, the Dickson Intercollegiate and in the Clemson Invitational)…ranked fifth overall in scoring on the Florida State team for the season with a stroke average of 74.65 in 23 rounds during eight tournaments.

Florida State’s leading golfer with a career-low 72.08 stroke average, with 10 of 12 rounds scored 75 or better and earned the first hole-in-one of her collegiate career in the first round of the Schooner Fall Classic…also earned the second eagle of her career at the Stanford Intercollegiate…played in all four events for the Seminoles – the Ocean Course Intercollegiate, the Schooner Fall Classic, the ANNIKA Intercollegiate and the Stanford Intercollegiate…Florida State’s leading golfer at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate (tied for 11th place) and the Stanford Intercollegiate (tied for 15th) and tied for the Seminoles’ individual lead in the Ocean Course Invitational…third career top-10 finish came at the Ocean Course Intercollegiate with scores of 78-70-72 for a 1-over par total of 220…improved her individual standing throughout the three-round tournament…was in a tie for 49th after a first round score of 78…moved up in a tie for 20th place with a second round score of 70 and a two-round total of 148…her 3-under par score of 70 in the third round moved her into the top-10 of the individual standings…helped the Seminoles to a second place finish in the team standings with her tied for 10th place finish…consecutive under par finishes for the first time in her career with a 1-under par total of 212 at the Schooner Fall Classic and a 1-under par total of 215 at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate…outstanding play in finishing in a tied for 16th place in the individual standings to lead the Seminoles to a fifth place finish in the team standings at the Schooner Fall Classic…scores of 71-71-70 for a three-round total of 212…Doherty played a solid first round of with her first career hole-in-one, one birdie and 13 more holes scored at par in earning a 71…she was never more than two strokes over par and her hole-in-one on her second to last hole brought her score to even par for the round… carded a team-high six birdies in the second round and carded a second consecutive score of 71…played her best golf of the tournament with a 1-under par score of 70 in the final round for a 1-under par total of 212…carded three rounds at par or better – 71-71-70 – the only Seminole to do so during the Schooner Fall Classic…Florida State’s leader with a tied for ninth place finish in the individual standings at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate…continued to sizzle during the fall season as he carded her fourth consecutive score of 71 or better and was in a tie for sixth place in the individual standings after the first round…was nearly perfect during the round with two birdies and 17 holes played at par or better…she was never above par and, after a birdie on her 11th hole of the day, was below par for her final eight holes of the day…closed her round at 1-under par over her final 13 holes…totaled a team-high six birdies and was below par during virtually the entire third round as she carded a 70 in the final round…scored par on her first two holes, birdied her third hole and was at minus-four when she made the turn…carded two birdies after the turn and was at or below par on 14 of her 18 holes…again led the Seminoles with a tied for 15th place finish at the Stanford Intercollegiate…carded the second best score of her career, a 3-under par 68, in the second round of the Stanford Intercollegiate to bring her two-day total to 142…carded four birdies and one eagle in coming within two strokes of tying her career-best round of 66….was 1-under par with two birdies on her front nine and 2-under par with two birdies and the second eagle of her career on the back nine…finished the tournament with a three-round total of 218…her scores of 74-68-76 allowed her to finish in the top-15 of the individual standings for the second consecutive event and for the third time in four events during the fall season…she did not finish lower than 16th in any of the Seminoles’ four events and finished the season a total of only four strokes over par…averaged a career-low 72.08 strokes in 12 rounds during four tournaments.
Graduated from The Galloway School in 2016…the State of Georgia 1A private school regional champion and led her team to the 1A team championship in 2016…also won the 2014 1A private school state championship on a one hole playoff and led her team to a fourth place finish in the team standings in 2014…the 1A private schools state championship runner-up and led The Galloway School to a third place finish in the team standings at the state championships in 2013…earned All-State honors in Class 1A by the Georgia High School Golf Coaches Association in 2014…earned Female Athlete of the Week honors by the Northside Neighbor newspaper in May of 2013 and June of 2014…named the Athlete of the Week by the Northside Neighbor in May of 2016.
Born September 16, 1997…Amanda is the daughter of Laura and Mike Doherty…a sister, Hannah, plays tennis…a member of the student association in 2013 at the Galloway School…received the Headmaster’s Letter of Commendation in 2015…plays the guitar and enjoys drawing…chose Florida State over North Carolina and Auburn.
