TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Freshman rightfielder Matt Diaz heads up a list of five All-Americans from Florida State named by The Sporting News.
In addition to 3rd Team All-American honors and 1st Team Freshmen All-America honors, Diaz (Lakeland, FL) Diaz garnered The Sporting News Freshman of the Year after turning in a .395 batting average, 21 home runs (an FSU freshman record) and 81 RBI this season. Diaz batted .750 with seven homers and 19 RBI in the NCAA Atlantic II Regional and earned MVP honors for his efforts.
Catcher Jeremy Salazar (Sr., Breaux Bridge, LA) was a 2nd Team pick on the list and left-handed pitcher Wes Crawford (So., Winter Haven, FL) and Diaz were named to the 3rd Team.
Florida State’s youth shined on the team as Diaz and right-handed pitcher Jon McDonald (Orlando, FL) took home 1st Team Freshmen All-America honors, while right-hander Nick Stocks (Tampa, FL) was named to the 2nd Team.
