A Tribute To Lee Bowen

Mike Vest (Wake Forest Media Relations)
I’m shocked and terribly sorry to hear of Lee’s passing. I extend my condolences to his wife, the Bowen family and his Florida State family.

I got to know Lee during my four years as the media contact for the Wake Forest baseball team.

Lee was a total professional. Of course, he was very knowledgeable about Florida State’s team. But, he also went to great lengths to learn as much as he could about the opposing team, too. I always admired his broadcasting style — passionate for his team, but fair and objective at the same time.

To many, including myself, Lee was just as much a part of Florida State baseball as any player, coach or support staff member.

Lee’s passing is not only a loss to Florida State fans, but to college baseball fans everywhere as well.

We’ll miss you, Lee.

Adam Pohl (Chapel Hill, North Carolina)
From meeting Lee the few times I did he always had the impression that Lee loved what he did with great fervor. The way he never could stand still and never stopped smiling. Here in Chapel Hill and in Burlington, we are thinking of you.

Steve – West Palm Beach Fl.
What can I say? I was as shocked as everyone else to hear of Lee’s passing. I’ll miss him dearly. Though I never met him in person, I did e-mail him a couple of times. He was always very personable and a class act. I always listen to “Seminole Baseball” over the internet, and it won’t be the same without LeeBo.

Nic S. (Tallahassee, FL)
I remember as a boy thinking how cool it would be to be a Florida State broadcaster and as far as I’m concerned Lee Bowen has been on the Florida State baseball team roster for 15 years. My prayers go out to the Bowen family as well as to God to keep Lee in the palm of his hand.

James Music (West Milford, NJ)
Being a huge Florida State fan, especially loving the game of baseball this news hurts me. A great person like Lee took his time and used such catchy baseball terms to announce some of the best games FSU has ever played. As an athlete from New Jersey who respects FSU baseball to the fullest, I always would listen to a live game over the FSU broadcast system. You couldn’t help but here the true Seminole baseball voice that Lee provided. My prayers go out to the Bowen family. God Bless.

Pete Holzberger – Dallas TX
God bless you all! The Seminole Club of North Texas sends our deepest sympathy. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. May God bless.

Rodney Shreve – Tallahassee, Florida
FSU Baseball without Lee Bowen will not be the same. I enjoyed listening to him as much as the game itself. All of Seminole nation joins his family in mourning a great loss. God Bless.

David Holtzclaw (Greer, SC)
I had the privilege to work with Lee for 2+ years at Florida State and what a great ambassador for not only FSU Baseball but the entire athletic department. He loved FSU athletics and all of the athletes as well. I pray for his family during this tragic time. May God bless you and give you comfort during this time!!

Brian Anweiler (Tallahassee, FL)
The Tallahassee Community College athletic department coaches and support staff extends our heartfelt sympathy to the family, friends and colleagues of Lee Bowen.

Marshall Cassedy Jr.
Adrienne,
God bless you and your family! Lee sure brought a lot of joy to the entire Cassedy family over the last 15 years. I listened to him going and coming from all the games and thoroughly enjoyed the color he brought to each and every game. Please hang on to the wonderful memories.

Sincerely,
Marshall Cassedy Jr.

Jim Clark – Raleigh, NC
My first thought is for Lee’s family on this unexpected and tragic loss. My prayers will be with them and all who knew him well.

My second thought goes out to Coach Martin, his staff, and the entire team as Lee was as much a part of Seminole baseball as the players themselves.

I had a few opportunities to meet and chat with Lee over the years in the Raleigh area as the team traveled to play NC State, Duke and UNC. His enthusiasm and passion for baseball, and especially Seminole baseball, was contagious.

Thank you Lee for all you gave the Seminole Nation, we can fill your space, but never your place in the hearts of Seminoles everywhere.

Eddie Woodward (Williamsburg, Virginia)
I am very sorry. I will really miss him. I will keep his family in my thoughts and prayers.

Mark Phelan – Class of ’77
As a loyal Seminole, I am sorry for your loss, and as a fellow human being I am even sorrier. He was a great man and his memory will live on with all he touched forever. God Bless you.

Patrick Kelly – Hope Mills, North Carolina
To the Bowen Family:
God Bless the Bowen Family during this time of distress. Just a reminder of what a gentleman Lee Bowen was. I met him for the first time at a recent FSU Baseball game in Durham a couple of years ago. Knowing how much he loved broadcasting FSU Sports he was a very kind and a decent gentlemen. He will forever be missed by sportsfans with the FSU Baseball Family.

God Bless All Forever
