HOUSTON, Texas -Terrell Baker led a balanced attack with 12 points as Florida State opened
the Steve Robinson era with a 65-53 road win at Rice. Baker, a junior
college transfer, was FSU’s only double figure scorer but five other
Seminoles scored at least eight points.
Florida State held the Owls to 36.5
percent shooting from the floor and forced 20 turnovers. The Seminoles
took the lead for good on a basket by freshman center Karim Shabazz with
6:30 to go in the first half and led by as many as 16 points in the second
half. Seniors LaMarr Greer, Corey Louis and Kery Thompson each scored nine
points while Shabazz and sophomore Ron Hale had eight apiece. The win came
in the earliest game in FSU basketball history.
