Florida State Cruises Past UNC-Asheville

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) – Terrell Baker scored 18 points
Wednesday night as 17th-ranked Florida State warmed up for Saturday’s date
against top-ranked North Carolina with a 77-60 victory over North
Carolina-Asheville.


The Seminoles (8-1) broke open a close game midway in the first half
and opened a 63-33 lead midway through the second half after a 3-pointer by
Baker, who also added 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals.


Two 3-pointers by Geoff Brower in the final three minutes of the first
half highlighted a 19-4 Florida State run that catapulted the Seminoles
into a 36-20 lead at halftime.


LaMarr Greer added 13 points and Randell Jackson 10 for Florida State,
which opens its Atlantic Coast Conference schedule at home Saturday against
unbeaten North Carolina.


Vincent Krieger’s layup following a steal got UNC-Asheville to 17-14
with 8:24 left in the half. But the Bulldogs went scoreless for nearly six
minutes as Florida State scored a dozen unanswered points, climaxed by
Brower’s first 3-pointer.


Josh Pittman scored 21 points for UNC-Asheville, but made only 8-of-25
shots as the Bulldogs (4-4) shot just 29 percent. Pittman’s 3-pointer seven
minutes into the game gave the visitors their last lead at 9-8.


Robert Stevenson added 11 points and nine rebounds for UNC-Asheville.
