Seminoles Beats Jacksonville by 30


TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Kerry Thompson scored 10 of his 13 points in the first half as
18th-ranked Florida State held Jacksonville to 10 points in the
first 20 minutes en route to a 74-44 pummeling.



LaMarr Greer added 11 points for the Seminoles (6-1), who have
wins in the first two legs of their three-game stretch against
in-state rivals. Florida State, which beat Florida Atlantic
earlier this week, plays Florida at Orlando next Sunday.



John Knox scored 10 points for the Dolphins (1-4), who have lost
four straight since starting the season with a 76-54 victory
over Florida A&M. Jacksonville has yet to play an opponent
outside the state.



The Seminoles have won nine in a row over Jacksonville and lead
the all-time series, 49-19.



Florida State held the Dolphins without a basket for the first
8:12 of the contest as it embarked on a 21-2 run. Corey Louis
hit a jumper and Greer added a three-pointer before Knox made
two free throws to make it 5-2 at the 17:50 mark.



But the Seminoles reeled off 16 straight points. Kyle Mulligan
had a layup and Karim Shabazz added a hook shot before Ron Hale
hit two free throws and a layup to push the lead to 13-2 with
14:11 remaining.



Thompson buried a jumper and Louis a layup around two missed
free throws by Jamar Bailey for the Dolphins. Micah Ross missed
two foul shots and Bailey failed on another before Randell
Jackson had a layup. Thompson capped the run with a jumper to
give Florida State a 21-2 lead with 12:12 left.



Ross ended the drought with a dunk 24 seconds later. But the
Seminoles answered a 17-4 run as the lead mushroomed to 41-8
after Matt Chlebek hit two free throws with 5.9 seconds to go in
the first half.



The Dolphins shot 12 percent (3-of-26) from the field in the
first half and missed all seven of their three-point shots.
Jacksonville also committed 16 turnovers.



Florida State took its largest lead of the game at 60-26 after a
jumper by Geoff Brower with 9:21 to play. The Seminoles shot 51
percent (26-of-51) from the floor and had 20 assists on their
26 baskets.



Jacksonville finished the game shooting 28 percent (17-of-61)
from the floor and 3-of-20 from beyond the arc. Farnell Charles
finished with nine points and 11 rebounds.
