With a full compliment of players available, FSU will head down to Miami Friday and try to upset the Hurricanes in Dolphin Stadium. The Seminoles last played in Dolphin Stadium in 2006 when they lost to Penn State. Florida State has actually lost its last three games played in the NFL home of the Miami Dolphins. FSU will have on more day to prepare for the Canes before boarding a plane on Friday.

PRACTICE HIGHLIGHTS

  • After focusing on work versus Miami scout teams, the squad broke up for pass rush and 7-on-7.
  • In pass rush Everette Brown, Everett Dawkins, Neefy Moffett, Jeremy Johnson and Paul Griffin all had sacks. Rodney Hudson won a couple battles for the offense while Andrew Datko, Will Furlong, Zebrie Sanders, Antwane Greenlee and Jacob Stanley all got wins.
  • Caz Piurowski had a great practice and it started in 7-on-7 where Christian Ponder found him on two occasions, with one completion going for a long gain. Ponder also connected with Preston Parker. Drew Weatherford had a completion to Corey Surrency and then a deep one to Rod Owens.
  • The drill moved into the red zone where Ja’Baris Little and Piurowski both hauled in TD passes. Jamie Robinson recorded a pick for the D and Dionte Allen broke up a pass.
  • In 11-on-11 Ponder hit Surrency, Jermaine Thomas and Greg Carr on a deep ball. Myron Rolle recovered a fumble while Brown and Markus White had QB pressures.
  • The offense scored a controversial TD in the 1:00 drill. Ponder moved the team down the field despite pressures from White, Ochuko Jenije and Derek Nicholson. A couple passes he just got off before sacks. The biggest was a floater down inside the five to Taiwan Easterling. The next play Neefy Moffett seemed to sack Ponder, which should have ended the drill but the offense got another crack and Ponder capitalized. The sophomore found Carr for the TD.

Florida State versus Miami is a legendary series and while it may not captivate the nation’s attention as it once did, it is just as big on the respective campuses as it ever was. You could hear that in the voice of Miami’s Corey Surrency in his post practice interviews Tuesday and you sure couldn’t tell it wasn’t a No. 1 versus No. 2 battle listening to head coach Bobby Bowden as well. With the win versus Colorado now squarely behind them, Tuesday the Hurricanes were on everyone’s mind.

PRACTICE HIGHLIGHTS

  • Jermaine Thomas and Antone Smith turned in impressive runs during inside drills and the defensive highlight was a big hit by Everette Brown.
  • In 1-on-1 E.J. Manuel connected with Greg Carr, Cameron Wade, Avis Commack, Rod Owens and Louis Givens. Defensively Korey Mangum, Ochuko Jenije and A.J. Alexander all broke up passes.
  • When 1-on-1 moved into red zone, Bert Reed and Commack hauled in TD passes while Jenije and Commack broke up passes.
  • In 7-on-7 Christian Ponder completed a couple passes each to Carr and Caz Piurowski and also connected with Taiwan Easterling. For the defense Kendall Smith and Derek Nicholson broke up passes and Roosevelt Lawson had a strip.
  • While 7-on-7 was going on, the lines worked against one another on the upper field. Brown dominated with three sacks while Budd Thacker, Kevin McNeil, Moses McCray and Justin Mincey all got to the QB as well. Ryan McMahon had a good drill winning four battles, Rodney Hudson won two and Jacob Stanley, Brandon Davis and David Spurlock all got a win as well.
  • In the final drill (11-on-11) Ponder hit Carr on a deep ball. Defensively Myron Rolle had a tackle for loss. Markus White had a QB pressure as did Paul Griffin. Neefy Moffett had a QB pressure and he batted down a pass at the line.

Coming off a big win over a previously undefeated Colorado squad, the Seminole football team (3-1, 0-1) spent 10 periods correcting mistakes from the squad’s 39-21 win on Monday night. While it is hard not to look ahead to next week’s rivalry game with the University of Miami, FSU had other business to take care of before they could get set for the 53rd meeting between the schools. Those preparations for UM will have to wait until Tuesday.
