LAKE CITY, Fla. — Gene Deckerhoff, getting set to call his 22nd

season of Florida State football on the radio, was inducted into the

Florida Sports Hall of Fame on Monday night in Lake City.

“This is very overwhelming,” said Deckerhoff. “This is a great

accomplishment but it is one that could not have been possible without the

help and dedication of so many people – my family, especially my wonderful

wife Ann, and FSU head football coach Bobby Bowden.”

Deckerhoff began his career at Florida State as the Seminoles

basketball play-by-play man 26 years ago and earned the football job

beginning with the 1979 season. He has also called the action for the

Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the last 11 seasons.

The Jacksonville, Fla. native also hosts the Bobby Bowden and Steve

Robinson television shows, handles televised broadcasts of select FSU

baseball games and is the play-by-play voice of the Arena Football League’s

Orlando Predators.

Decekrhoff has been selected Florida Sportscaster of the Year nine
