Florida State Conclude Two-A-Days

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State Seminoles concluded their last day of
two-a-days in preparation for tomorrow afternoon’s scrimmage at Doak
Campbell Stadium. The Seminoles practiced for 18 periods in full pads
during the morning session and 15 periods in the afternoon in shoulder pads
and helmets.

“It was another good day of practice for us,” said Bobby Bowden. “We
are looking forward to the scrimmage tomorrow to see where we are at and
what we need to work on.”

In the morning 7 on 7 drills, Thad Busby connected on 3 of 5 passing,
while Dan Kendra completed 2 of 5 pass attempts. The bright spot during
the 11 on 11 scrimmage was the running game. Dee Feaster broke out for
two long runs and Davy Ford ran one in for a touchdown.

“The offense is really making progress with the running game,” commented
Bowden. “We will continue to improve on that and get ready for the opener
against Southern California.”

The afternoon practice concentrated on team drills and a 11 on 11
scrimmage. The coaches reduced the afternoon practice to 15 periods in
hopes of having the team fresher for tomorrow’s scrimmage.

The scrimmage, which is closed to the public, will take place tomorrow
afternoon at 4:30 in Doak Campbell Stadium. It will be the second
scrimmage of the fall for the Seminoles.

“The older guys are going to see more time tomorrow,” said Bowden. “The
younger guys saw alot of the reps in the first scrimmage. You will see a
lot more of the 1’s versus the 2’s and the 2’s versus the 1’s.”

Khalid Abdullah suffered and grade 1 MCL sprain of the right knee and a
grade 1 medial sprain of the right ankle in the morning practice. The
following players will not participate in the scrimmage tomorrow–Andre
Wadsworth, Samari Rolle, Corey Simon, Travis Minor and Abdullah.

Florida State school officials and Bobby Bowden announced today that
junior cornerback Mario Edwards has been suspended from school indefinitely
and has been released from the football team for the entire 1997 football

In the annual kick-off luncheon this afternoon, Bowden named the captains
for the year. Permanent captains will be selected at the end of the year
by the team. The captains are: Offense – K. Long; Defense – Daryl Bush;
Special Teams – Shevin Smith.
