TALLAHASSEE, FL — The No. 4 Florida State Seminoles practiced Thursday
evening for 20 periods in full pads at the football practice fields. The
Seminoles will take Friday and Saturday off due to an open week and resume
practice on Sunday with both units coming in for running and conditioning.
Come Monday the team will practice as if it were a Tuesday practice with 24
periods starting in the afternoon.
“We went out in full pads today,” said Coach Bobby Bowden. “We took the
first 10 periods of practice and worked on our short-yardage game. I
though I saw a little improvement. Then the other half we worked on Miami
plays. After that we took the guys who have been playing most of the past
three games and let them run and the other half we had a scrimmage with.
We came out pretty good.”
The practice would have usually began with three pre-periods of kicking
and punting game, but heavy rain halted that portion. Once the team began
normal practice, they broke off into positions and worked on various
fundamentals and coverages.
“Overall, we got out of it what we attempted to get out of it,” commented
In the scrimmage, mainly consisting of second and third team players, the
quarterbacks were the highlights.
Back up quarterback Dan Kendra was 3 of 3 for 62 yards and Chris Weinke

Laveranues Coles. Kendra hit Marvin Minnis (23 yards), Tres Walton (26
yards) and Germaine Stringer (13 yards). Other than Weinke’s 68-yard TD
pass, he hit William McCray with a 16-yard gain.
Davy Ford rushed one time for seven yards in the scrimmage, while Travis
Minor added two yards on four carries and Vannez Gooch four yards on one
Daryl Bush, Greg Spires and Dee Feaster all dressed out for practice, but
were held out of all contact drills and did light conditioning.
Reserve defensive end Chris Walker (sprained right ankle), walk-on
