Seminoles Continue Preparations for Duke

TALLAHASSEE, FL — No. 4 Florida State (4-0) continued preparation for
ACC foe Duke with a 20-period practice session in shorts and shoulder pads
this afternoon.

The team worked on the kicking game in the beginning of the session and
then practiced against the scout squad in skeleton drills. Freshman
cornerback Tay Cody intercepted a Thad Busby pass during the 11-on-11
scrimmage segment of practice.

“I don’t want the coaches letting up because we’re playing Duke,” said
head coach Bobby Bowden. “We had a good, hard practice today.”

Duke comes into Saturday’s game with a 2-3 record after a 16-10 loss to
Maryland last week.

“Duke’s problem is they’re playing so many young people,” commented
Bowden. “They’ll be good (when they get experience). They’re smart and
don’t make a lot of mistakes. You have to beat them. Duke’s offense has
more guys likely to break out of there (for a run).”

“It’s the toughest day this season we’ve had on injuries,” said Bowden.

Linebacker Daryl Bush re-injured his right ankle and strained his right
hamstring. Defensive lineman Corey Simon suffered a bilateral cervical
burner and had x-rays tonight. Safety Shawn McCorkel strained his right
hamstring. Offensive guard Donald Heaven had an MRI on his right knee and
will get results tomorrow.
