Florida State Prepares for Trip to Charlottesville

TALLAHASSEE, FL — No. 3 Florida State (6-0) continued preparation for
their ACC match-up against Virginia (4-2) this afternoon as the squad
practiced in shells (shorts, shoulder pads and helmet) for 20 periods.

“We worked a lot on the kicking game,” said head coach Bobby Bowden.
“Virginia does as well as anyone in the country in the kicking game. We’ve
watched film on them where the opponents start drives on the one-yard line.
They do a great job of downing the ball inside the five. We really worked
on it this week. They’re as solid as anyone at blocking punts, returning
punts and coverage.”

“(Punter Keith) Cottrell’s punted the best I’ve seen him punt today,”
said Bowden. “They put a live rush on him five times and he got it out
good. He’s punting down where we can get our headhunters under it.”

The Seminoles held 11-on-11 scrimmaging during the middle portion of
today’s session. Freshman defensive end David Warren intercepted a Thad
Busby pass, while senior defensive end deflected a Dan Kendra pass.

INJURY REPORT: E.G. Green-right thumb subluxation; Tay Cody-right groin
pull; Tres Walton-out with illness.
