TALLAHASSEE, FL — The No. 2 Florida State Seminoles continued preparation
for Saturday’s showdown with No. 5 North Carolina with a 20-period practice
in shorts and shoulder pads.
The session began with kickoffs and kick returns, before the team split
up into individual drills. The squad had an 11-on-11 scrimmage midway
through practice and then practiced against the scout team.
“This game has shaped up from the beginning of the summer,” said head
coach Bobby Bowden. “It was the first time North Carolina was picked to
dethrone Florida State. The boys have heard it all through the year. It
builds to a crescendo, like the Miami and Florida games. They (the
players) are intelligent enough to look at North Carolina film and know
they are for real.”
“The two biggest contests of the game are our offensive line versus their
defensive line and their offensive line versus our defensive line,”
commented Bowden. “Our offensive line still has a lot of football ahead of
them where they can get better, but they’ve got eight games under their
