TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The No. 1 Florida State Seminoles (10-0)
practiced for 21 periods in shells (shoulder pads, helmets and shorts) in
preparation for Saturday’s showdown with in-state rival No. 10 ranked
Florida Gators. The first half of practice concluded with an 11-on-11
scrimmage that was highlighted by a 30-yard run by freshman tailback Travis
Minor against the second-team defense.

“We had a good day of practice,” commented Bowden. “The team was
concentrating on what we were doing and it was a very spirited effort out

The game will feature two of the top defenses in the country. The No.
1-ranked Seminole rush defense will be forced to stop a Gator rushing
attack that averages 143.2 yards per game, while the 10th-ranked Gator
defense will try to stop a Seminole offense that is averaging over 461.3
yards per game.

“We want to limit the running game of Florida and force them to do one
thing,” said Bowden. “On defense, they hit just as hard as we do and they
are quicker than any team that we have played to this point. I am
expecting a good, clean football game from both teams on Saturday.”

Senior cornerback Samari Rolle practiced, but was held out of contact
after spraining his left ankle in last weekend’s Wake Forest victory.

Seniors Daryl Bush and Andre Wadsworth were selected today to the GTE
Academic All-American District III football team. It marked the third time
that Bush was selected to the team. The national Academic All-American
team will be selected on December 9th.

Freshman kicker Sebastian Janikowski was the recipient of the AT&T Long
Distance “field goal” award for Division I-A schools after making a
school-record 56-yard field goal in Saturday’s victory over Wake Forest.
The kick was also one yard shy of the ACC record.

Freshman linebacker Bradley Jennings had surgery today on his broken
nose. Jennings is redshirting this season. Other injuries: Julian
Pittman-left knee inflammation; Damon Carroll-sick; Vannez Gooch-charlie
horse; Marvin Minnis-right shoulder AC separation.
