Swimming And Diving Teams Fall To Auburn


Seminoles next return to action against Indian River Community College Nov. 12.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State swimming and diving teams

fell to the Auburn Tigers this afternoon at the Bim Stults Aquatic

Center in Tallahassee. The men lost to the defending national champions

and second-ranked Tigers 132-108 as the women fell to the eighth-ranked

Lady Tigers 140-102.

The Seminoles started the meet with Greg Main-Baillie, Brett

Petersen, Steve Forson and Kevin Flanagan edging out the Tigers in the

400 Medley Relay to win the event in a time of 3:22.32. All-American

Brett Petersen added a win in the 200 Breast in a time of 2:06.14 as

senior diver Brent Burkman won the one-meter springboard (275.48) while

finishing 2nd on the three-meter (262.65). Other top finishes included

senior Nelson Mora with a 2nd place finish in the 200 Free (1:43.13) and

the 200 Fly (1:52.58), junior Greg Main-Baillie with a 2nd place finish

in the 100 Free and 3rd in the 200 IM, senior Bill Schultz finishing 3rd

in the 1000 Free (9:35.52) and senior diver Glen Gonzales finishing 3rd

on the one and three-meter boards. The relay team of Flanagan, Will

McReynolds, Julian Daily and Nnamnse Ammons won the 400 Free Relay event

in a time of 3:08.21.

The Lady Seminoles were led by sophomore Christy Cech who won

the 50 Free (23.37) and 100 Free (50.97) and Tanya Gurr who finished 2nd

in the 200 Free (1:50.96) and 3rd in the 100 Free (52.42). Other top

finishes on the women’s side included Amber McClain who finished 3rd in

the 1000 Free (10:36.07), Karyn Krenauw who finished 2nd in the 200

Breast (2:18.82), Amber Goodwin with a 2nd place finish in the 200 Back

(2:03.95) and Kristen Adams who finished 3rd in the 200 Free (1:53.08)

and 500 Free (5:06.82). In diving action, sophomore Caren Hirai finished

2nd on the one-meter (232.58) and 3rd on the three-meter (212.10) as

senior Marya Sabesky finished 2nd on the three-meter (260.03) and 3rd on

the one-meter (228.23). The relay team of Anne Blachford, Gurr, Karin

Holmstedt and Christine Williams took the top spot in the 400 Free Relay

in a time of 3:29.60.

The Seminoles are 2-2 as the Lady Seminoles are at 3-2 on the

season. The teams will return to action on Friday, November 12 as they

host Indian River Community College beginning at 3:00pm.
