Florida State Swimming and Diving Compete at Auburn

AUBURN, Ala. — The Florida State Women’s and Men’s Swimming and Diving
teams completed their second day of competition tonight at the Auburn
Invitational at Auburn University. The women remain in fourth place as the
men moved up to third.

Junior Stephen Parry led the men’s team today, winning the 400 IM and 100
Fly in NCAA Consideration times of 3:53.68 and 48.49 respecctively as well
as winning the 500 Free Friday night. Also performing well for the men was
Brendon Dedekind, winning the 50 Free and finishing 3rd in the 100 Breast.
The Seminole men’s diving squad had a big night with all three divers
qualifying for the NCAA Diving Zonals in March. Glenn Gonzales finished 2nd
(509.36), Brent Burkman finished 5th (488.27), and Ben Nuttal finished 8th
(469.00) on the 1-meter springborad.

The Lady Seminoles have been led over the past two days by freshman
Kristen Adams and juniors Samantha White and Sherri Fowler. Adams finished
7th in the 500 Free; Fowler finished 9th in the 500 Free and 5th in the
400 IM; and White finished 9th in the 100 Breast. The highlight of the
women’s events was teh 3-meter diving, where three competitors qualified
for the NCAA Zonals in March. Senior captain Sarah Henderson finihsed 4th
(473.87); Marya Sabesky finished 6th (436.23); and Kirsty Carrihill
finished 8th ( 414.09). Carrihill qualified for the NCAA’s in the
preliminaries with a score of 436.00.

The competition ends Sunday with 10-meter platform diving as well as
swimming events. Preliminaries begin at 10am with finals as 6pm. The diving
begins at Noon.
