Florida State Well Represented at Goodwill Games


Coach, two swimmers bring home gold.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Coach Donald Gibb and two senior All-Americans returned to Florida State a with gold medal this week after competing in the 1998 Goodwill Games in New York. Brendon Dedekind and Stephen Parry, both national champions and All-Americans, competed on the World All-Stars team in the swimming competition. Gibb was named an assistant coach for the event.

“It was exciting for us,” Gibb said. “The guys had the opportunity to compete against some of the top swimmers in the world. It was a relaxed atmosphere and we had a lot of fun.”

Dedekind, the 1998 NCAA Champion in the 50 Free, competed in the 100 Breast, an event he won at the 1998 Atlantic Coast Conference Championships. Parry, the 1997 NCAA Champion in the 200 Fly, competed in the 200 IM and 200 Fly. Both also competed in the relays.

Dedekind and Parry will compete in the Commonwealth Games in Malaysia with FSU teammates Keam Ang and Brett Petersen in September.
