Florida State Women’s Basketball Falls to #16 Virginia in Overtime

Seminoles fall to 7-14 overall and 3-8 in league.

TALLAHASSEE,FL— The Florida State Womens’ Basketball team tied the game
at 69 to take the Cavaliers into overtime before losing 83-76 this
afternoon at Tully Gym. The Seminoles drop to 7-14, 3-8 in the ACC as
Virginia improves to 15-5, 6-4 in the ACC.


Lysa Moorefield scored the first two points of the game off a pass from
Jen Robinson after the tip. Virginia then tied the game and led most of
the first half with their biggest lead of 12 with 1:11 left in the half.
Arleshia Davidson, Aletha Penn, and Val Linley each hit 2 free throws and a
layup from Davidson cut the lead to 5 at the half, 32-37. Davidson led the
scoring in the first half with 8 points as Penn and Coleman had 7 and 5
points respectively.


Florida State came out of halftime on a 10-4 scoring run to take a 42-41
lead. With 1:59 left Coleman hit two free throws to tie the game at 66.
Virginia’s Kate Mooney hit one of her seven three pointers to give the
Cavaliers the lead but Senior Wnedy Hampton hit a three with 40 seconds
left to send the game into overtime. Moorefield led the scoring in the
second half with 10 as Coleman added 7.


The Seminoles trailed by two for most of overtime before Mooney hit
another 3 to give the Cavaliers a 6 point lead. Coleman hit two more free
throws to cut the lead to 4 but Katy Tracy hit two free throws for Virginia
to give them the lead and the win, 83-76. Four Seminoles scored in double
digits against the Cavaliers. Coleman and Moorefield shared high scoring
honors with 16 a piece as Penn and Davidson each had 10 points. Freshman
Brooke Wyckoff had 8 points and 14 rebounds.


Florida State’s next game will be Wednesday night against North Carolina
at Tully Gym at 7pm.
