DURHAM, N.C. (AP) – Nicole Erickson scored 18 points and had seven assists
and No. 25 Duke tied a school record for 3-pointers in a game in a 96-76 win
over Florida State Friday night.
Michele VanGorp and Payton Black added 17 points each for Duke (11-5, 4-2
Atlantic Coast Conference), which beat Florida State for the seventh straight
time. Black got her points in just 15 minutes, making 8 of 12 shots from the
floor. Hilary Howard and Peppi Browne added 12 points each for Duke.
The Blue Devils connected on 11 of 24 3-point attempts, with Erickson
hitting 4 of 9 and Howard making 4 of 6.
Despite a head cold, Latavia Coleman led Florida State (5-10, 1-5) with a 21
points on 10-for-16 shooting. Jen Robinson chipped in 18 and Wendy Hampton 12
for the Seminoles.
Florida State led 17-10 and was still ahead 32-31 following a Coleman layup
with 3:22 left in the half. Howard then popped in two 3-pointers and Erickson
added one in the closing minutes to spark a 9-3 Duke run. The Blue Devils never
Up 40-35 at halftime, Duke hit 10 of its first 14 shots in the second half
to open up a 64-42 lead with 13:05 left. Florida State got no closer than 74-58
Hampton made 5 of 6 shots from the floor and Robinson 7 of 9, helping
Florida State’s 30-for-55 effort from the floor. But the shorter Seminoles
could do little to handle the 6-foot-6 VanGorp and 6-4 Black, who led Duke to a
35-26 edge in rebounding.
