Florida State Soccer Drops Home Opener To Hurricanes, 3-0

Women falter despite outshooting Miami 23-12.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State soccer team dropped their home

opener to the Miami Hurricanes this afternoon 3-0 at the Seminole Soccer

Complex. The Hurricanes improve to 1-0 as the Seminoles drop to 0-2.

“It was really frustrating when we would dictate play and not

execute on the situations,” Head Coach Patrick Baker said. “We out shot

them 2-1 and they scored three goals, which makes it even harder. It’s a

tough lesson to learn; you can dominate the play and create all the

situations but until the ball is in the back of the net, you can’t win the

games.”

Miami’s Deidre Bass scored the first goal for the Hurricanes in the

39th minute off a cornerkick from Jordan Sims. The Hurricanes’ Allison

McWhinney scored the second goal in the 54th minute during a chaotic

shot-deflection battle in the Seminole goal. Mehryn Corrigan scored the

Hurricanes final goal in the 79th minute. Florida State’s Sarah Deacon led

the team with six shots .

“We didn’t execute the plays when we had them,” Baker said. “We

know what we have to work and will take this week to regroup and focus on

Friday’s game.”

The Seminoles will take on Mercer on Friday, September 3 at the

Seminole Soccer Complex at 7:30pm.
