Women’s Tennis Team Opens Season with a Win

Seminoles defeat Jacksonville, 7-0.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The 1999 women’s tennis team defeated Jacksonville
University this afternoon, 7-0, to open their spring dual match season.

With every member of the team who played, winning their match, Coach Lisa
Gregory finds herself with a very good and experienced team. Newcomer,
freshman Alida Gallovits, opened the season as the team’s No.1 player and
won her match 7-5, 6-3. No.2 player Nanette Duxin, Gallovits’ doubles
partner, won her match impressively, 6-0, 6-2.

FSU did not lose a set all day, and three Lady Seminoles did not lose a
game all day. Jessica Balbuena, Marina Raic, and Kia Asberg all won their
matches 6-0, 6-0. The other Seminole victory came from junior Ali Weber at
the No.3 spot.

Tommorrow at 10:30am the men’s and women’s tennis teams are hosting the
first kid’s day of the season. There will be free popcorn and drinks, and
many prizes to give away. Due to possible weather conditions the men’s team
has moved their match to 11:00am as well. So tommorrow morning the women’s
and men’s team are in action at 11:00am, the women play against Illinois
and the men against Old Dominion.
