Kyle Slaton came to Florida State in July 2015 and is the Assistant Athletics Director for Athletic Turf. His responsibilities include the maintenance of over 15 acres of athletic fields.
Slaton has a decade and a half of experience in athletic grounds maintenance under his belt. Prior to Florida State, Slaton worked as the Director of Athletic Grounds at Georgia State for five years where he oversaw over 12 acres of athletic fields. At Georgia State, Slaton won the 2014 Sports Turf Managers Association College and University Soccer Field of the Year.
Slaton previously worked as a turfgrass intern with the Milwaukee Brewers (2004-05), the Philadelphia Phillies (2006) and the Philadelphia Eagles (2006-07).
After graduating from Penn State with a bachelor’s degree in turfgrass science in 2006, Slaton was hired as the head groundskeeper for the Frederick (Md.) Keys minor league baseball club. He held that position until 2010, when he joined the athletics department at Georgia State.
Slaton has been a member of the Sports Turf Managers Association since 2004 and became a Certified Sports Field Manager in February 2013.
