GREENSBORO, N.C. – Florida State women’s basketball coach Sue Semrau has been named the 2009 Atlantic Coast Conference Coach of the Year in an announcement made today by conference officials.

Semrau, who has now earned ACC Coach of the Year honors three times after garnering the award in the 2000-01 and 2004-05 seasons, has guided the Seminoles to the greatest regular-season in program history.

Semrau’s Seminoles (24-6, 12-2 ACC) set school records this year for most wins over top-10 opponents (three), highest national rankings (No. 11 AP poll and No. 12 USA Today/ESPN poll) and highest ACC Tournament seeding (No. 2 seed). FSU also earned the first ACC Championship in program history after finishing tied for first at 12-2, the most wins in the conference this year.

The 12 conference victories is also a program-best and the team’s 24 wins overall ties Semrau’s career high.

The Seminoles, who were predicted to finish the regular-season fifth in the ACC, finished first thanks to a balanced attack that features four of Semrau’s players that earned All-ACC recognition this year.

Junior Jacinta Monroe was named to the All-ACC Second Team and Defensive Team, seniors Mara Freshour and Tanae Davis-Cain were picked as All-ACC Third Team selections, and true freshman Cierra Bravard made the All-ACC Freshman Team.

In addition to coaching some of the league’s best players, Semrau reached career win No. 200 this season when the Seminoles upset No. 8 North Carolina on Feb. 13.

Now currently at 203 victories, Semrau is far from done this season. The Seminoles will face off against Boston College Friday at 6 p.m. in the second round of the ACC Tournament. FSU will find out its NCAA Tournament destination on Monday, March 16, which will mark the Seminoles’ fifth-straight appearance in the Big Dance, seventh in the Sue Semrau era and ninth overall.

Tonight’s game against the Eagles will not be aired on television but instead can be viewed online at Seminoles fans can also join a live game chat on the Internet at
