The Sunshine Network will air a preview of the Florida State men’s and women’s basketball seasons Monday night at 6:30 p.m.
Men’s Coach Steve Robinson begins the season with a mix of a strong recruiting class and a two returning starters.
Sophomore center Nigel Dixon scored 20 points in the Seminoles’ first exhibition game of the season last Wednesday night. Dixon led the Garnet squad to a 71-68 win in the annual FSU Garnet and Gold game. Sophomore forward Mike Mathews, who sat out the 1999 season due to NCAA academic regulations, was the high scorer for the Gold squad with 18 points. He also grabbed eight rebounds.
The men’s team will play host to the One World All Stars in its second and final exhibition game of the season Thursday night at the Leon County Civic Center. The game is open to the public and there is no admission charge. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
Brooke Wyckoff returns to the women’s team after a stint on the USA team that won the Jones Cup, a tournament for college-aged players.
Wyckoff led the Seminoles with a game-high 27 points as the women’s team rallied from 16 points down to defeat the Premier Players, 93-78, in overtime Saturday. It was the women’s first of two exhibition games prior to their season opener on Nov. 19.
