TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State swimming and diving team opens its regular season in Gainesville, Fla., at the State of Florida Invite October 1-3.
“The competition is going to be good and every one is going to want to do well,” head coach Neil Harper said. “I just want to see everyone get up and race for the first meet of the season.”
The State of Florida Invite will pit the Seminoles against the best swimmers in the state, including competition from the Gators and Hurricanes. It will also be the freshmen’s first opportunity to compete at the collegiate level.
“It’s an opportunity for the freshman to get their first college swim meet out of the way,” Harper said. “For our Seminoles going to Gainesville it doesn’t get more serious than that and we’re excited to go down there. Getting to travel for the first time, this is a chance to see how the training is going.”
With the meet be an all Florida event, many Seminoles will have the chance to swim and dive against former teammates and rivals from high school.
“I think this is perfect competition because so many of these kids have competed against each other so it will be a friendly meet,” Harper said.
The meet will begin with preliminary heats Friday morning at 9:00 a.m. The top 16 swimmers in each event will advance and swim for points in the evening session. For results log on to www.seminoles.com.
