TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s and women’s
swimming and diving teams both experienced defeats at the hands of Florida
State on Saturday. The Hurricane women (0-2) lost 146-87, while the UM
men were defeated by a score of 153-84.

A pair of freshman and a sophomore led the Hurricane women.
Freshman Katie Beth Bryant finished first in both the 1- and 3-meter
diving events, while fellow freshman Elaine Schwartz finished first in the
200-yard butterfly (2:06.40) and second in the 200-yard IM (2:08.85).
Sophomore Emily Spychala placed second in both the 1- and 3-meter diving
events.

The divers once again dominated for the men, as senior Tyce
Routson and sophomore Imre Lengyel took first and second in the one-meter
diving event and switched places for the three-meter event with Imre
taking first and Tyce taking second. Freshman Javier Wagner also took
home a third place finish in the 200-yard freestyle.

Saturday’s meet with the Seminoles served as a precursor for the
Miami and Florida State football clash on Saturday in Tallahassee.

Miami will be off until October 23, when the UM women have a meet
against Florida Atlantic and Tennessee at the Whitten Student Union Pool
at the University of Miami.
