Swimming and Diving Falls to Florida

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – In their first home meet of the year, the Florida State swimming and diving teams lost to Florida. The #13 Seminoles fell to #19 Gators 92-150 as the Lady Seminoles lost to the #13 Lady Gators 91-152 at the Bobby E. Leach Center on the Florida State Campus.


“The women swam real well tonight,” Head Coach Don Gibb said. “We had a lot of good races but just lacked the depth we needed.”


Junior transfer Tanya Gurr led the way for the Lady Seminoles as she won the 100 Free and took second in the 200 Free. Samantha White and Anne Blachford added first place finishes in the 200 Breast and 200 IM receptively as Sherri Fowler finished second in the 200 Breast and third in the 200 Fly.


Freshman diver Caren Hirai added points with a second place finish on the one meter board and Marya Sabeksy finished third on the three meter board. Seniors Stephen Parry and Julio Santos led the Seminoles tonight. Parry won the 200 and 500 Free and finished second in the 200 IM as Santos won the 50 and 100 Free events.


Other second place finishes include Danny Chocron in the 1000 Free, Brett Petersen in the 200 Breast and the 400 Medley and Free Relays. The divers added their points tonight as Brent Burkman and Glenn Gonzales took the second and third place spots in the three meter competition. Gonzales also finished third on the one meter board as Burkman finished fourth with Ben Nuttall finishing fifth.


The Lady Seminoles are now 4-2 (1-0 in ACC) and the Seminoles are 4-1 (1-0 in the ACC). Florida State returns to competition December 3-5 as they compete in the Notre Dame Invitational.
