Swimming And Diving Goes 2-1 In Atlanta

TALAHASSEE, Fla. — The Florida State swimming and diving teams went 2-1 today in Atlanta as they took on the NC State Wolfpack and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center. The Lady Seminoles defeated NC State 163-123 as the Seminoles topped Georgia Tech 210-88 but dropped one to NC State 152-148.

The Lady Seminoles won 11 events this afternoon, including the top three in four events. Christy Cech won the 100 Free in a time of 52.24 and the 50 Free, going 23.73 in the event. Amber Goodwin also won two events, taking the 100 back in a time of 58.56 and the 200 Back in a time of 2:04.52, which was a new pool record. Karyn Krenauw took wins in the 200 Breast (2:20.17) and 100 Breast (1:05.89) and Tanya Gurr took the 200 Free in a time of 1:52.87. Other winners for the Lady Seminoles included Jill Deviese in the 200 Fly (2:08.45) and Lisa Kirsch in the 1000 Free (10:29.43). The Lady Seminole relays took the first three spots as well in the 200 Medley Relay. Diver Marya Sabesky won the one-meter springboard with a score of 233.50.

The Seminoles set seven new pool records and won nine events in the tri-meet with Georgia Tech and NC State. Greg Main-Baillie led the team, winning the 100 Back (51.51), 200 Back (1:52.29) and 50 Free (21.17) all in pool record times. Brett Petersen added his points with wins in the 100 Breast (57.84) and 200 Breast (2:07.18), both pool records. Steven Forson added points with a win in the 50.56 (pool record) with the team of Main-Baillie, Petersen, Forson and Kevin Flangan winning the 200 Medley Relay in a pool record time of 1:32.02. Divers Brent Burkman and Glenn Gonzales took one and two in the one and three-meter springboard respectively with Lou Dondero and Ben Nuttall taking 4th and 5th on the boards.

The Seminoles will take next weekend off as the women head to Pulman, Wash., for two dual meets. The Lady Seminoles will take on the University of Minnesota and Washington State University on Saturday, October 23 at 11:00am PST. The men’s team will return to action on Saturday, October 30 as both teams host the Auburn Tigers.
