Tallahassee Police Departments Advises That Fans Check Traffic Patterns On Saturday

Tallahassee, FL –
The following events will occur on Saturday, October 25, 2003 resulting in numerous streets in the downtown area and in the area of FSU and FAMU to be closed.


FAMU HOMECOMING PARADE


Staging for the FAMU Homecoming Parade begins early Saturday morning and the following streets will be closed to through traffic beginning at 6:30 a.m.


,,? Macomb St. from Fourth Ave. to Tennessee St.
,,? Old Bainbridge Rd. from Fourth Ave. to Georgia St.
,,? Brevard St. from Copeland St. to Bronough St.
,,? Georgia St. from Copeland St. to MLK Blvd.
,,? Virginia St. from Copeland St. to MLK Blvd.
,,? Bronough St. from Sixth Ave. to Tennessee St.


In addition to the above streets the following streets will be closed at 7:45 a.m. and will remain closed through the end of the parade (appox. 12:00 p.m.).


,,? Tennessee St. from Monroe St. to the Bryan St/Basin St. intersection (local traffic only, no through traffic)
,,? Duval St. from Gaines St. to Virginia St.
,,? Call St. from Bronough St. to Adams St.
,,? Park Ave. from Bronough St. to Adams St.
,,? College Ave. from Bronough St. to Adams St.
,,? Jefferson St. from Duval St. to Adams St.
,,? Pensacola St. from Bronough St. to Adams St.
,,? St. Augustine St. from Bronough St. to Duval St.
,,? Madison St. from Railroad Ave. to Adams St.
,,? Martin Luther King Blvd. from Virginia St. to Call St.


Motorist traveling east through Tallahassee on Tennessee St. should turn left at Ocala Rd. and continue east on Tharpe St., south on Monroe St. to Tennessee St. where they can continue eastbound.


Motorist traveling west through Tallahassee on Tennessee St. should turn north at Monroe St. and continue north to Tharpe St. then west on Tharpe St. to Ocala Rd. From Ocala Rd. motorist can travel south to Tennessee St. where they can continue westbound on Tennessee St.


People wanting to attend the FAMU Homecoming Parade are encouraged to use Monroe St. to access the parade route. Access to the parade route from the west will be restricted due to detours caused by the parade.


FAMU vs. NORFOLK ST. FOOTBALL GAME


At 1:00 p.m. the following streets will be closed to through traffic and only motorist with FAMU booster parking passes or wanting to enter into paid parking lots will be allowed to enter.


,,? Wahnish Way from FAMU Way to Osceola St.
,,? Perry St. from Gamble St. to Okaloosa St.
,,? Liberty St. from Pasco St. to Perry St.
,,? Manatee St. from Pasco St. to Perry St.
,,? Nassau St. from Pasco St. to Perry St.
,,? Okaloosa St. from Perry St. to Wahnish Way


These streets will remain closed during the game and until approximately one hour after the end of the game. Perry St. and Wahnish Way will remain closed until all pedestrian traffic is off the roadway.


,,? FAMU Boosters arriving at Bragg Memorial Stadium from Wahnish Way north should remain in the right lane to access booster parking.
,,? FAMU fans wanting to park in the parking garage should enter on Wahnish Way from the north and move to the left lane when directed after FAMU Way. A parking fee is required.
,,? FAMU fans wanting to park in the paid parking lot at Perry and Eugenia St. should enter from the north on Wahnish Way and turn right on Eugenia St. A parking fee is required.
,,? FAMU Boosters arriving at Bragg Memorial Stadium from Wahnish Way south should proceed north from Osceola St. to Okaloosa St.
,,? FAMU fans wanting to park in the general parking should use Orange Ave. and proceed north on Wahnish Way. General parking is located across from the FAMU Police Department and a Taltran shuttle is provided before and after the football game. A parking fee is required.


After the FAMU vs. Norfolk St. football game the following changes in traffic patterns will be in effect until approximately one hour after the end of the football game.


,,? Wahnish Way one-way north from Gamble St. to FAMU Way.
,,? Northbound traffic on Wahnish Way will be directed east on FAMU Way to Adams St. or east on All Saints St. to Bronough St.
,,? Wahnish Way is restricted to outbound traffic from Okaloosa St. to Osceola St.
,,? Perry St. will be one-way from Liberty St. to Gamble St.


Before, during, and after the football game motorist can expect very heavy traffic and lengthy traffic delays in areas near the FAMU campus and Bragg Memorial Stadium.


FSU vs. WAKE FOREST FOOTBALL GAME


FSU fans wanting to arrive early (before 12:30 p.m.) at the FSU vs. Wake Forest football game should use the following routes:


,,? FROM U.S. 27 North/N. Monroe St.
Turn west on Tharpe St. to Ocala Rd. South on Ocala Rd. to Pensacola St. East on Pensacola St. to Stadium Dr.


,,? FROM U.S. 319/Thomasville Rd.
Option #1
Take Interstate 10 from Thomasville Rd. westbound to Capital Circle NW (Exit #196). South on Capital Circle NW to Tennessee St. East on Tennessee St. to the intersection of Bryan St./Basin St. South on Bryan St. to Stadium Dr.
Option #2
Continue south on Thomasville Rd. to the Bradford Rd./Betton Rd. intersection. Turn west on Bradford Rd. and continue west across Monroe St. The street will change names to Martin Luther King Blvd. and turn south. Turn west at Tharpe St. and continue to Ocala Rd. Turn south on Ocala Rd. and enter the stadium using Tennessee St. or Pensacola St.


,,? FROM U.S. 90 East/E. Tennessee St.
Turn north at Monroe St./U.S. 27 and continue to Tharpe St. Turn west at Tharpe St. and continue to Ocala Rd. Turn south on Ocala Rd. and enter the stadium using Tennessee St. or Pensacola St.


,,? FROM U.S. 27 South/Apalachee Parkway
Turn north at Monroe St./U.S. 27 and continue to Tharpe St. Turn west at Tharpe St. and continue to Ocala Rd. Turn south on Ocala Rd. and enter the stadium using Tennessee St. or Pensacola St.

,,? FROM State Rd. 20 West/Blountstown Highway
There should be no change in traffic patterns for fans arriving on these roads. Expect heavy traffic as you near Doak Campbell Stadium due to detours caused by the FAMU Homecoming Parade.


,,? FROM U.S. 319/Crawfordville Rd.
,,? FROM State Rd. 363/Woodville Hwy.
Turn west on Capital Circle and continue to Springhill Rd. Turn north on Springhill Rd. and continue on Lake Bradford Rd. to the stadium.

FSU fans planning on arriving at the game after 12:30 p.m. will be able to use their traditional routes to the game. Expect very heavy traffic on Gaines St. due to the ending of the FAMU Homecoming parade and inbound FAMU football game traffic.


Beginning at 11:30 a.m. in the area of FSU??s Doak Campbell Stadium the following streets will be limited to FSU Booster parking traffic only.


,,? Stadium Dr. from St. Augustine St. to Pensacola St. west of the stadium will be closed for parking and shuttle services beginning at 11:30 a.m. Until Tennessee St. opens after the FAMU Homecoming parade, southbound traffic on Stadium Dr. will be allowed to continue to Lake Bradford Rd. and Gaines St. After Tennessee St. opens only FSU Booster’s with the appropriate parking pass will be allowed on Stadium Dr. south of Pensacola St. on the west side of the stadium.


Beginning at 1:30 p.m. other streets around FSU’s Doak Campbell Stadium will be closed. These include the following:


,,? St. Augustine St. from Stadium Dr. to Railroad Ave. (Taltran Shuttle route)
,,? Madison St. from Railroad Ave. to MLK Blvd. (Taltran Shuttle route)
,,? Chieftan Way from Call St. to Pensacola St. (Booster Traffic Only)
,,? Pensacola St. (East side of the stadium) from Stadium Dr. to Chieftan Way (Booster Traffic Only)
,,? Westbound traffic on Jefferson St. from Wildwood Dr. to Pensacola St.
,,? Stadium Dr. from Pensacola St. East to Pensacola St. West
,,? Connector Rd. will be used for bus parking.


During the FSU vs. Wake Forest football game the following streets will remain closed to traffic:


,,? Stadium Dr. from Pensacola St. East to Pensacola St. West.
,,? Pensacola St. from Stadium Dr. to Chieftan Way.
,,? Connector Rd. from Stadium Dr. to Chieftan Way

After the FSU vs. Wake Forest football game the following changes in traffic patterns will be in effect until approximately one hour after the end of the football game.


,,? Pensacola St. will reverse to one-way eastbound Chieftan Way to Monroe St.
,,? Gaines St. will be one way eastbound from Lake Bradford Rd. to Monroe St.
,,? Only outbound football game traffic will be allowed on Stadium Dr. between Lake Bradford Rd. and Pensacola St. on the west side of the stadium.
,,? St. Augustine St. between Stadium Dr. and Railroad Ave. will be closed for the Taltran shuttle buses.
,,? Madison St. between Railroad Ave. and Martin Luther King Blvd. Will be closed for Taltran shuttle buses.


It is anticipated that both the FSU and FAMU football games will end at approximately the same time. Motorist near either university should expect very heavy traffic and lengthy delays. Motorist not associated with either of these football games should avoid streets near both universities.


As always motorist and fans are urged to pay careful attention to the directions given by traffic officers and on portable message boards. Motorist should drive with extreme caution in areas of heavy pedestrian traffic.
