TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State baseball will host UCF, Auburn, and Tennessee Tech in the Tallahassee Regional beginning Friday, June 2, the NCAA Selection Committee announced Monday afternoon. The Seminoles were named one of 16 regional host sites Sunday evening.
Florida State (39-20) is the 1-seed in Tallahassee and hosting for a seventh-consecutive season.
The Seminoles won the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament Sunday, earning the league’s automatic bid. Florida State has won 18 of 23 games entering the postseason, and its 40-year streak of reaching the postseason is the longest in the country.
Tennessee Tech (40-19) is the 4-seed after earning the automatic bid out of the Ohio Valley Conference. The Golden Eagles won the regular season and tournament titles in the OVC to earn an NCAA Tournament bid for the first time since 2009. Tech leads the country in home runs with 97 and set school records for runs (495) and hits (698).
UCF (40-20) earned the 2-seed behind first-year head coach Greg Lovelady. The Knights won the American Athletic Conference regular-season championship, the team’s first league title since winning the Atlantic Sun in 2004. UCF is playing in a regional for the first time since 2012, which is also the last season the Knights won 40 games in a year.
This is UCF’s eighth appearance in the Tallahassee Regional.
Auburn (35-24) was an at-large selection out of the Southeastern Conference. The Tigers were 1-2 in the SEC Tournament in Hoover, Ala., last week, and finished 19-10 in the league this season. Florida State is 10-4 all-time against Auburn in the NCAA Tournament, most recently beating the Tigers twice in Tallahassee in 2005 to reach the Super Regionals.
Auburn last played in the Tallahassee Regional in 2015, beating Mercer and losing twice to College of Charleston.
