Tallahassee, Fla. – After an impressive performance at the 2001 FSU Quad Meet, which included an NCAA Provisional mark in the 400m hurdles, Florida State sophomore Byron Taylor earned Performer of the Week honors from the Atlantic Coast Conference. Taylor shares the accolade with Brent Callaway of North Carolina, while Cydonie Mothersill of Clemson claimed the honor on the women’s side.
Taylor, a Stone Mountain, Ga. native, notched impressive performances in both the 110m hurdles as well as the 400m hurdles at the FSU Quad Meet. Taylor started the day off with an NCAA Provisional time in the 400m hurdles, crossing the finish line in 50.63 to vault him into the top five times in the country, as well as the top time in the ACC. Taylor also finished fourth in the 110m hurdles, finishing just behind teammate Danyne Brown with a time of 14.43.
The Seminoles earned their third ACC Performer of the Week award this year, and their second in the outdoor season. Joe Allen earned the award for the week ending April 1, for his provisional marks in both the long jump and triple jump at the Florida Relays.
Taylor and the rest of the Seminoles will face the best the ACC has to offer this weekend, as the squad travels to the ACC Outdoor Championships in Orlando, Fla. Taylor is the top ranked hurdler entering the conference meet.
