TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State women’s tennis team (1-0) heads to Columbus, Ohio for the 2017 ITA Kickoff Weekend to take on No. 7 Ohio State (2-0) at the Varsity Tennis Center on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. The Seminoles will then face either Alabama (3-1) or Harvard (0-2) on Sunday with a bid in the ITA Team Indoor Championship at stake.
The match with Ohio State is being featured as the PlaySight-ITA Women’s Match of the Week, and all six courts can be watched live here: http://www.ohiostatebuckeyes.com/sports/m-tennis/live-stats.html
“We’ve been preparing so very well in practice- the focus has been as good and as sharp as it’s been in years and I’m really happy with that,” head coach Jennifer Hyde said. “I think we’re going to be ready- we’ve been playing indoors for the last few weeks. We’re ready to go and ready to compete.”
The Seminoles are 6-0 all-time against the Buckeyes, with the last meeting coming in 2012. The Noles are 7-5 all-time against Alabama and 2-0 all-time against Harvard.
The Seminoles opened the dual match season with a 5-2 victory over the Columbia Lions two weeks ago in New York, which has helped prepare the Noles for the challenge of playing indoors in this Kickoff Weekend.
“We’re guaranteed two tough matches, which is exactly what you want right now,” Hyde said. “We’re facing an Ohio State that has a lot of returning players from last season. We know we have our work cut out for us, but at the end of the day, we’ve got to go perform.”
The ITA Kickoff Weekend is a nationwide event held across 15 host sites for both men and women’s tennis. The teams hope to qualify for the 2017 ITA Division I National Women’s Team Indoor Championship in New Haven, Conn. February 10-13.
